IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPANTS ON CANOESPORT COACHING COURSES - CENTRAL REGISTRATION
If you are attending a canoesport coaching (either training or assessment) you must obtain a stamped C1 form prior to the course and bring it with you on the course. This is essential. You can obtain a C1 form from CANI (tel 0870 240 5065) or from clicking here
A stamped C1 form is proof that you have obtained all of the course pre-requirements and may attend a training or assessment course. You should allow at least two weeks for your C1 form to be processed.

If you book on a course and arrive without obtaining a stamped C1 form, you will be unable to attend the course and will lose your course fee.
Purpose of the Level 3 Assessment.
The Level 3 Coach Assessment is a two day course .
The purpose of the training course is to ensure that all candidates for the level 3 Coach award have a sound background knowledge of both the environment in which they are to operate and the sport of canoeing in general.
Level 3 Coaches may examine for the 1,2 and 3* star tests in the discipline for which they hold the coaching award.
Who Is This Course For?
The BCU Level 3 Kayak or Canoe Coach Award is aimed at coaches and youth leaders who wish to introduce others to canoeing on moderate waters in specialist craft kayaks
Course Aims
To confirm candidates have the skills to safely introduce, manage and lead a group in moderate conditions on the Sea, WW, Surf
To confirm candidates have the relevant boat handling, group management and safety skills.
To create a positive learning environment.
To develop a greater level of confidence and independence through greater knowledge.
For our staff to provide a positive learning environment and an individually tailored coaching experience.

Our Staff
The Coach(‘s) who will work with you are all highly experienced and qualified. Tollymore prides itself in the knowledge and experience that its full time and part time staff bring to its courses. Our staff are all keen canoeists who know all the local ‘hot spots’ enabling them to choose the most suitable site to run your course. You may well have met them on the water in the past, if not you’re sure to bump into them in the future on days when they are not working!
All are obliged to attend annual staff updates and training courses
What do I need to bring?
The following list is of equipment we recommend you bring. All essential equipment is available from our extensive stores. Borrowed equipment will be treated as your own for the purpose of the assessment therefore If you do have your own equipment bring it along our staff will be required to vet for suitability of equipment such as buoyancy aids, boats and helmets.

Tollymore Information
Tollymore Mountain Centre, on the edge of the Mournes, is Northern Ireland’s National Centre for Mountaineering and Canoeing Activities. It is funded and managed by the Sports Council for Northern Ireland as a National Centre. The Centre is an attractive, purpose-built facility of log construction with accommodation for 30 people in 2, 4 and 6 berth bedrooms. Quilts, pillows and bed linen are all provided. The Centre is well appointed with toilets, showers, modern kitchen, lecture room, workshop and drying room. Outside there is ample parking space, a ropes course and a floodlit granite-climbing wall. A modern indoor climbing wall is open year round. The centre is ideally situated on the edge of the Mournes, with quick and easy access to the hills.
The Central Council for Physical Recreation opened Tollymore Mountain Centre in 1969. In 1974, it passed to the newly established Sports Council for Northern Ireland Trust. In 1995, Tollymore achieved the management standard BS EN ISO 9001:2000 for the quality systems it operates. However, as part of Sports Council for Northern Ireland’s ongoing commitment to the development of the National Centre, Tollymore will be undergoing a major redevelopment, commencing in 2007. The facilities will be improved and expanded, to ensure that Tollymore remains as an example of best practice in the provision of mountaineering, hillwalking, climbing and canoeing courses in Northern Ireland.

This is a fully catered course.
What next?
On successfully completing this course you will be recognised as having the skills required to safely manage, lead and coach up to 4 star in an intermediate environment. The logical next step courses is the coaching Processes course and/or 5 Star in your discipline. Also you could try a course in an alternative discipline – sea, surf, canoe or Inland kayak.
