INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT SCHEME

PERSONNEL SPECIFICATION

Position Title:                Participant, Instructor Development Scheme

Reporting To:                Centre Manager, Tollymore Mountain Centre  

Training Allowance:       £125 per week

1.0    QUALIFICATIONS

Essential Criteria

1.1            No formal qualifications are necessary for this position

Desirable Criteria

1.2            Full D1 driving license

2.0    WORK EXPERIENCE (in an employed or voluntary capacity)

Essential Criteria

2.1            No previous experience is necessary

Desirable Criteria

2.2            Full or part-time experience of working or assisting on adventure activity courses or programmes or similar.

2.3            Experience of dealing with the public

2.4            Experience of handling cash

3.0    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Desirable Criteria

3.1            Completed skills and / or leadership training in one or more of the following areas:

·         Hillwalking

·         Canoeing or kayaking

·         Rockclimbing

3.2            Completed leadership training in other sports

3.3            Knowledge and understanding of a range of national governing body award schemes for mountaineering, canoeing and rock climbing.

4.0    SPECIAL APTITUDES

4.1            Good level of fitness

4.2            Good communication skills and the ability to relate to peers

4.3            Polite and friendly manner

Desirable Criteria

4.4            Demonstrable written and oral presentation skills

4.5            Competent in the use of IT

5.1            Able to act on personal initiative and make responsible decisions within agreed guidelines

5.2            Good qualities of Judgement

6.0    CIRCUMSTANCES

Essential Criteria

6.1            Must be available to work irregular and unsociable hours including overnight stays, weekends and on occasions for extended periods

Desirable Criteria

6.2            Full, clean, current driving license

7.1     Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to contribute to a team

7.2     Enthusiastic and highly motivated

8.0    OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

Essential Criteria

8.1            Currently active in at least one of the following adventure sports:

·        Mountaineering

·        Rockclimbing

·        Canoeing / Kayaking

8.2            Well presented with a neat and tidy appearance
