A Paddlesport Instructor is someone who runs starter and taster sessions and short journeys in very sheltered water, within the safety management systems of your clubs/centres or other organisations. Paddlesport Instructors enable newcomers to have a great first time experience on the water, by creating a fun and safe environment, encouraging new paddlers to come back. A Paddlesport Instructor is an enthusiastic paddler, who is keen to introduce people to the sport.
The staff working on our Paddlesport Instructor Award are highly qualified and experienced coaches as we acknowledge the very crucial role that Paddlesport Instructors play in introducing people to paddlesport and recognise the importance that they receive the best of support, guidance and training from the very start. On the course you will also be introduced to a range of games and activities used to reinforce your coaching. Of course having access to our experienced staff means that you glean from them any number of ‘hot tips and handy hints’ for your next coaching session on the water.

Click HERE for the British Canoeing eLearning activities which aid anyone taking part or thinking about the Paddlesport Instructor Course. There are 9 topics to choose from, along with a knowledge audit which will help you understand areas you may need to develop further. The activities are free to access, can be accessed in any order and each have a statement of participation that can be downloaded upon completion.
This two day Paddlesport Instructor Training and Assessment course is aimed at those who are keen to introduce ‘first timers’ to Paddlesport and is designed to be as accessible to a wide range of individuals as possible for example:
Our equipment stores are by far the best around with a stock of over 100 boats there are plenty to choose from.
All you will need to bring is footwear for the water, a long sleeved top for under your wet suit and a towel /toiletries.
Participants are encouraged to bring all personal equipment including safety equipment so they get the opportunity to be coached using the equipment they are most familiar with.
(If you have any props for playing games afloat please bring them along. A waterproof note book for taking notes afloat would be useful).
