Participants should have some previous climbing experience and a reasonable level of fitness to attend this Next Step Rockclimbing Skills course .
Students should be happy fitting their own equipment, tying in and belaying. Previous climbing experience could be either on the crag, indoor wall or on the Tollymore First Step Rock Climbing Skill course .
This Next Step Rockclimbing Skills course aims to give participants the skills to become much more independent and safer rock climbers.
No longer will you rely on others to check everything for you. After this course you should have a truly in depth understanding of the rock climbing systems.
We will look at everything from finding the right route and understanding the subtleties of the grades to setting up climbers belay systems and placing protection at the belay and on the route.
As with all Tollymore courses we will be flexible. Participants input and needs will play an integral part of the course plan and as such their needs will be considered at every stage.
This Next Step Rockclimbing Skills course is for those with some previous rock climbing experience. You may be a regular user of climbing walls, but have never progressed beyond the basics or you may have been on an First Step Rock Climbing Skills course but have always wanted a more comprehensive insight into the skills required to develop further. You need a reasonable level of fitness.
Waterproofs and rucksacks may be borrowed from our extensive stores. We advise you not to rush out and buy kit for the course, but use it as a chance to find out what would best suit your needs.
You should bring the following: any personal climbing equipment, walking boots, waterproof trousers, waterproof jacket, warm outdoor wear (fleece is ideal), hat and gloves, day rucksack, waterproof rucksack liner (bin liner is ideal), water bottle, vacuum flask, small first aid kit, personal medication, and notebook and pen.
The Next Step Rockclimbing Skills course fee includes kit, equipment, in course transport, coaching, and lunch.
Your course is a one day course, so accommodation is not provided. However, we do have changing rooms, showers and lockers available for your use.
We can offer you a nights’ accommodation and breakfast either at the beginning or end of a course for an extra £26.50 per person. This is a great way to further enhance your time at Tollymore and savour the beautiful majestic setting that the Centre has to offer.
Our catering is first class, noted both for the quality and quantity of the food that we provide. Your course is catered, so you will be provided with a packed lunch for the day. You may however wish to bring your own personal snack food for use during the course. You can fill a flask with tea or coffee at the Centre if required.
