The aim of the workshops is to spend two days looking at hillwalking and rockclimbing governing body training and assessment syllabi, specifically with a focus on the following areas:
This course is only available to full and trainee members of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors. The programme below may be subject to change.
Day 1 |
11th November – Hillwalking awards, primarily HMLA and MLA. Standards for training and assessing. How do we train and assess to these standards? 9:00 – 9:15 a.m. Arrive, introductions, outline for the day(s). Indoor discussions covering all of the bullet points. Also:
11.30 p.m. Leave the centre with packed lunch, for hill session. Topics covered will include:
7:30 P.M. Return to the centre for dinner, followed by a quiet beer! |
Day 2 |
12th November – Rockclimbing awards, specifically RCI and CWA. Standards for training and assessing. How do we train and assess to these standards? 9:00 – 9:15 a.m. Arrive, outline for the day 9:30 a.m. Leave the centre with packed lunch, for climbing session. Topics covered will include:
1:00 p.m. Return to the centre for lunch followed by a short indoor wall session.
3:30 p.m. General discussion on other issues. 4:30 p.m. Wrap up and depart It is important that all sessions are focused on the role of us, as instructors delivering a training or assessment course and how to do that in the best interests of the participants, the gov body, AMI, etc |
Personal climbing and walking kit.
Tollymore will provide any specialist kit including ropes
The course fee includes kit, equipment, in course transport, workshops, food and accommodation.
Course accommodation will be in shared twin ensuite rooms. If you would prefer not to share a room, single occupancy may be available for an additional charge.
If you would like to arrive the day before, or stay until Saturday to go climbing, B&B is available on Wed 10th for £28.50, dinner, B&B is available for Friday eve, cost is £40.50. Contact the office to arrange this, separate to your course booking.
Current situation
As you are probably aware the current advice from the Northern Ireland Executive, Health Promotion Agency NI and Health & Safety Executive NI, as well as our expert group within Sport NI is that we cannot deliver any face to face courses for our customers including use of the Hot Rock Climbing Wall.
We know that you and many others like minded folk are very keen to get back on track with your plans to attend and complete a range of personal skills training and qualifications in a range of disciplines.
