We made some changes to entry requirements of Hotrock Climbing Wall in order to enhance the enjoyment and safety of everyone using the climbing wall. Everyone will be required to complete an Hotrock Adult Membership Form or Hotrock Youth Membership Form and this can be done quite quickly at Reception the next time you pop into the Centre. You will then be issued a membership card which will clearly indicate access category.

There will now be inductions for all wall users – options for boulder only, bottom rope/auto belay and lead climbing. The induction for adult wall users involves answering a selection of verbal questions.

Change to Parental Supervision

Parents will now only be able to supervise a maximum of two children at any one time. Each child must have a Hotrock Youth Membership Form filled out and signed by their parent or guardian.

Under 18’s

For those users under 18s there will be an Independent Wall User Test to ensure that everyone is climbing safely. An Independent Wall User Test is a short test of technical knowledge, climbing ability and awareness of policies and procedures in Hotrock Climbing Wall. These tests will only last 15 to 20 minutes and must be arranged in advance by contacting Reception on (028) 4372 2158.

Please note the Independent Wall User Test is only valid for use at Hotrock Climbing Wall.

Under the membership system, under 14’s must be closely supervised by an adult independent wall user at all times. 14-18’s can complete an ‘Independent Wall Users Test’ and thereafter visit the wall and operate independently.

There are three different categories for minors who wish to use the wall.

A. 16 – 17 year olds

Provide a completed Hotrock Youth Membership Form or an Hotrock Independent Youth Membership Form3 and complete an Independent Wall User Test.

B. 14-15 year olds

Current situation

As you are probably aware the current advice from the Northern Ireland Executive, Health Promotion Agency NI and Health & Safety Executive NI, as well as our expert group within Sport NI is that we cannot deliver any face to face courses for our customers including use of the Hot Rock Climbing Wall.

We know that you and many others like minded folk are very keen to get back on track with your plans to attend and complete a range of personal skills training and qualifications in a range of disciplines.

Believe us when we say we are equally keen to get outside with you and help you reach your goals and complete that journey.

How do we know? Because every day we get emails and phone calls asking when will courses resume and with every NI Executive mention of easing of restrictions the emails and phone calls are more frequent……
