For this Foundation Safety and Rescue Training (FSRT) pre-requisites are as follows:
This Foundation Safety and Rescue Training is a practical course that aims to provide paddlers with the key safety and rescue skills required to operate safely in a sheltered environment and to be able to deal with common emergencies.
By the end of the day you will be aware of the safety issues of paddling in a sheltered environment and will have the opportunity to practice and develop the rescue skills necessary to ensure your safety and the safety of others in this environment.
For those of you who are aware of the Canoe Safety Test it has been superseded by the FSRT.
This Foundation, Safety and Rescue Training is aimed at all paddlers – open boaters, kayakers, sit on top, racing boats, sea kayakers, etc, who paddle in a sheltered environment.
It is a useful award for those paddlers who are working towards independent paddling.
The FSRT is a pre-requisite for those wishing to complete their Level 1 and 2 Coach as a boat based coach.
Our equipment stores are by far the best around with a stock of over 100 boats and with matching paddling apparel there is plenty to choose from.
All you will need to bring is footwear for the water, a long sleeved top for under your wet suit and a towel /toiletries. Be prepared to get very wet!!
The following is a list of essential equipment for this course and when operating in a sheltered environment. All are available from our stores but if you do have your own do bring them along.
Participants are encouraged to bring any personal equipment so they get the opportunity to be coached using the equipment they are most familiar with.
The course fee includes lunch, kit and equipment, in-course transport, coaching, tea, coffee and one of our famous chocolate brownies.
Your course is a one day course, so accommodation is not provided. However, we do have changing rooms, showers and lockers available for your use.
We can also offer additional nights’ accommodation in our comfortable ensuite bedrooms either at the beginning or end of a course for an extra £26 per person. This is a great way to further enhance your time at Tollymore and savour the beautiful majestic setting that the Centre has to offer. So why not extend your stay and make a weekend out of it.
Our catering is first class, noted both for the quality and quantity of the food that we provide. Your course is catered, so you will be provided with a packed lunch for the day. You may however wish to bring your own personal snack food for use during the course. You can fill a flask with tea or coffee at the Centre if required.
