The beautiful majestic Mournes – Leave No Trace of your journey!

Tollymore National Outdoor Centre is proud to support and promote the workings and ethos of Leave No Trace. Tollymore is one of only two dedicated Leave No Trace Outdoor Centres on the island of Ireland who are fully accredited Leave No Trace course providers.

In our delivery of NGB Skills and Leadership courses we incorporate the ethos of environmental responsibility through participation in as wide a variety of outdoor activities as possible.   Leave No Trace came about as a response to the increasing recreational pressure on the outdoors and Tollymore strives to incorporate many of the principles within the delivery of our land based and water based activities.

Accreditation for environmental awareness is now being used as part of continuing professional development within NGBs and organisational bodies such as Prince’s Trust, Duke of Edinburgh and Mountaineering Ireland.

We can deliver a one day Leave No Trace Awareness Course on request (this is the pre-requisite for the Trainer’s Course). This Awareness Course costs £51 and includes certification and packed lunch.

The Centre also runs Leave No Trace Trainer’s Course over a weekend. The Leave No Trace organisation uses trainer status as a prequisite for the delivery of Awareness Courses.  On attending a weekend course you are then put on a central registry of Leave No Trace providers. The cost of this course is £165.50 and includes registration (£35pp), accommodation and is fully catered.

All courses we offer are as practical based as possible. The emphasis is on the ‘outdoor classroom’ with discussion on all the principles of Leave No Trace and the practicalities involved in implementing these principles in outdoor recreational use.

Leave No Trace is about healthy and passionate discussion and even disagreement. It is not a dogmatic system of rules and regulations but more a platform for recognising that we use the outdoors for our own enjoyment and we consider ways we can minimise any negative impact.

If the dates on the Leave No Trace Trainer’s Course does not suit you we can arrange a course at your convenience, with a minimum number of 6 participants.

Current situation

As you are probably aware the current advice from the Northern Ireland Executive, Health Promotion Agency NI and Health & Safety Executive NI, as well as our expert group within Sport NI is that we cannot deliver any face to face courses for our customers including use of the Hot Rock Climbing Wall.

We know that you and many others like minded folk are very keen to get back on track with your plans to attend and complete a range of personal skills training and qualifications in a range of disciplines.

Believe us when we say we are equally keen to get outside with you and help you reach your goals and complete that journey.

How do we know? Because every day we get emails and phone calls asking when will courses resume and with every NI Executive mention of easing of restrictions the emails and phone calls are more frequent……
