For this Next Step Scrambling Skills course participants should be reasonably hill fit, preferably with some previous hillwalking experience.
↓ Course summary
This Next Step Scrambling Skills course will teach you all the skills and tips to get you up and down the more inaccessible areas of the mountains and home again. Your instructor will spend time demonstrating the systems and use of equipment and if appropriate give you the opportunity to apply these techniques yourself.
This is not a rock climbing course but you will be on steep mountain terrain which does require the use of ropes, harnesses, helmets and specialist climbing kit to keep things safe.
↓ Who is the course for?
This Next Step Scrambling Skills course is perfect for those who want to step things up from basic hillwalking to mountaineering and hopefully become more independent in this type of environment.
It’s also useful as a stepping stone to pure rock climbing.
Bring any of your own personal rock climbing / outdoor clothing and kit such as, waterproof jacket and trousers, boots, fleece jacket, hat and gloves, harness and rack, flask, water bottle, Mourne map (1:25,000), guide book, and spare clothes. It’s best to bring plenty of lighter layers and avoid cotton if possible as it offers little heat and takes ages to dry out if wet or sweaty.
Tollymore can supply most of the equipment you require for this course but it is preferable to use your own were possible even if it’s just a chance for your instructor to comment on your kit and give advice.
↓ What does my course fee include?
This Next Step Scrambling Skills course includes full board and accommodation, in-course transport and instruction.

Believe us when we say we are equally keen to get outside with you and help you reach your goals and complete that journey.
How do we know? Because every day we get emails and phone calls asking when will courses resume and with every NI Executive mention of easing of restrictions the emails and phone calls are more frequent……
