Candidates need to provide evidence of the assessment prerequisites listed below. Copies of the relevant evidence must be included in the Candidate Portfolio and original evidence/certificates checked by the Assessor.
Evidence of Registration: This may be in the form of a stamped CR form, or other evidence provided by the candidates Home Nation Association. SCA members also need to include evidence of their SQA registration.

Evidence of Valid Level 2 Coach Training:
Training is valid for 12 months. This is extended by 6 months after an unsuccessful assessment. Candidates must include any letter of extension if this has been granted.
Copy of Valid First Aid Certificate: Minimum 1 day course within the last three years.
Copy of BCU 3 Star Certificate or Evidence of Competition Equivalent:
This applies to boat based candidates only. It is required in canoe and/or kayak depending on the certification route being followed. Evidence of acceptable competition equivalent performance must have been verified by the Home Nation Association.
Evidence of Child ProtectionTraining: Either the ScUK Safeguarding and Protecting Children course or the BCU Paddlesafe online Child Protection course. It is the candidate’s responsibility to make sure any other course is recognised as an alternative by their Home Nation Association.
Coaching Logbook Evidence:
A minimum of 10 hours coaching canoe and/or kayak depending on the certification route being followed.
A Level 2 Coach is expected to be able to plan, deliver and review a series of six progressive sessions safely and effectively in any paddlesport discipline.
Over the course of the day candidates will be given the opportunity to coach two sessions. It is most likely that one of these sessions will be as part of a journey.

Please ensure you have completed items 1-7 on the portfolio checklist (PDF 19.7KB) and return the checklist with items 1-7 of supporting evidence 1 week prior to assessment.

Portfolio Checklist – your portfolio is a key part of your assessment. Before attending your assessment you should ensure that you have completed all the pre-assessment portfolio requirements listed on the form.
Items 1-7 should be completed prior to your assessment and submitted 1 week prior to assessment. Items 8-11 will be completed during your assessment.
This form needs to be returned to us 1 week prior to your assessment with the required sections signed by your mentor along with items 1-7 of supporting evidence. We advise that you keep copies of all paperwork sent to us.
The Level 2 Assessment is accessible to any UKCC Trainee Level 2 or to those coaches who had taken the Level 2 transfer route.
Candidates are expected to come fully prepared with personal paddling kit, leadership and group management kit and any coaching props. You will have full access to the Tollymore stores if required.
